The BBC presenter took aim at The People's Channel

Nigel Farage has taken aim at BBC presenter Nick Robinson after he made a jibe about GB News.

The broadcaster mocked the channel while speaking to GB News presenter and Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg during an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

Farage says the comment has made him “even more determined” to ensure The People’s Channel enjoys more success.

Speaking during Farage at Large, live in Bournemouth, he said: “So, Nick Robinson, how many people would watch you if you didnt work at the BBC?

“Who the hell do you think you are?” Farage added in a fiery retort.

“The outright arrogance of these people at the BBC given the fact that we have to pay all this money to watch them and listen to them every year is a complete and absolute disgrace.

“It makes me even more determined that GB News succeeds as a new channel and I win those awards on Friday.”

The presenter is gunning for Best News Presenter of the Year Award at the prestigious TRIC Awards, which honours the “great and good” of the industry.

The former Brexit Party leader hit out at Robinson for disparaging comments made regarding GB News’ viewership during his interview with Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Robinson commented: “You’re now a TV host.”

Rees-Mogg, in response, said: “I am on GB News between 8-9pm on Monday-Thursday.”

The BBC host replied: “We have to tell the audience because there is not that many people who watch.”

Despite Robinson’s comments, the popularity of the channel and Nigel Farage in particular was laid bare as the TRIC Awards website crashed moments after the GB News presenter told viewers he’d been nominated for a top gong.

Just moments after Farage tweeted that he’d been nominated and encouraged followers to vote to challenge the “self-congratulatory” establishment, the site went down as swathes of fans tried to back him.

GB News viewers and supporters of the former Brexit Party leader were furious that they weren't able to vote.

Bradley from Manchester Tweeted: "Just tried. Filled it all out. Then it wouldn’t submit the form."

Another angry user posted: "This is deliberately designed not to work if you select Nigel!"

Voting is now available again on the website, although the public only have until Friday to cast their ballot.
